As I have stated many times, getting a few hens for eggs has changed our lives in many ways I could not have predicted. One of those ways is collecting chicken breeds that are unusual or different. We started looking for breeds for chicken shows and now it has gone beyond that to include breeding and incubating some of those strange breeds. Here are a few of the fun breeds we have now.
Polish~ We have a cute Buff Polish that we are hoping is a hen and also a White Crested Black Polish Rooster. These guys are so fun to watch.

Our newest guy is a Silkie. Their feathers are more like rabbit fur, really soft, and they cannot fly at all not even to roost.
These next two are chicks we hatched out of our flock. One is a Naked Neck crossed with our Partridge Cochin.( it ends up being big, fluffy, feather footed, and no neck feathers) And the other is out of our Ameraucana rooster, but we aren't sure what hen. We don't have another one like her. She is really pretty.
Another fun one we have is a Phoenix. We have a rooster and two hens. They are still small. He will be really pretty when he gets bigger.
Of course then we have Bodie's favorite hen, Frizz, who is a frizzle. Frizzles have feathers that are all crazy. We are hoping to cross her with the Polish rooster and also the Silkie. Those will both be some unusual chickens.
We will see what happens with the rest of the summer, but I feel certain we will be incubating or buying some more fun breeds in the future.
