Never thought I'd have chickens, but things change when you start trying to eat healthier on a budget. Right now we just have layers, but I have to say I am really starting to enjoy them. All of my kids love them and love gathering eggs. My son is obsessed with them. There are so many benefits to having them. They are serious bug eaters, they kill snakes, they produce yummy eggs, and they are pretty funny. We have a lot of fun breeds. So, without further ado, I'm going to let the pictures speak for themselves.
This our white Leghorn, that was adopted by our hen Cheese last year. We named her Milk.
This is Cheese. She is a white Cochin. Cochins are an ornamental breed ( means they are mostly pretty to look at)
This is Love. She is a golden laced Wyandotte. Love her feather pattern.
This hen is not pretty, but she is an actual breed called a naked neck chicken. We call her Naked Neck.
This is an Ameraucana. Her name is Black Ninja Head and she lays beautiful green eggs.
This is Belle. She is a golden sexlink.
Tornado is an Australorp.
Bodie's favorite hen, Peeper. She's a goldenlaced Cochin.
This hen is named Fiesty because she is! She will attack the dog and cat and flies up on my shoulder to look for food. She is a New Hampshire Red.
This is JT Cluck, the very busy man of the flock. Keeping up with all these ladies(we have 24 hens) means he's working over time! He is a Barred Plymouth Rock.
Just a picture of the different colors and sizes of eggs we get on a daily basis.
We have actually really enjoyed picking out unusual breeds. They have been super easy to care for. Our chickens are out all day and are only locked up at night. They roam freely and are healthy and happy.
