We have had a crazy good growing year because our weather has been so nice. I think we might hit the triple digits today for the first time. That is almost unheard of here.
Our tomatoes and green beans and squash are going crazy.Tomatoes don't stay fresh long so you really have to eat them, get rid of them or do something with them pretty quickly. Here are a few things I've done to make use of mine before they spoil.

I made sun dried tomatoes. They are good by themselves or in pastas.
I found a great tomato basil sauce. And my friend, Chris, shared her spaghetti sauce recipe with me. It is a lot of work canning tomatoes, but it will be worth it when we have homemade stuff to use year round.
What else is going on? We are planting more stuff! We just planted a 40 ft row of burgundy okra.
We planted pumpkins and gourds for the fall. We are really hoping this does well so we can have a pumpkin patch where people can come pick their own. We will see how they do.
Our watermelon patch is getting ready. We have cantaloupe, honeydew, and watermelon planted. The watermelon are still small, but the honeydew and cantaloupe are going to be big and ready soon!
We watched the Back To Eden film.If you haven't seen it check this out. This is only the teaser so he doesn't go into much detail about what he does, but you can check out the full Back to Eden movie. This guy does not sell anything, he grows it for fun and tells anyone who wants to listen what he does. It's pretty amazing. Glenn and I have already decided we want to try his methods out and see how it works. It totally makes sense! There is a shorter movie called Back to Eden the complete Tour on you tube. It's a great Q and A video! | |
We are slowly transitioning our garden to the Back to Eden design. This means leveling the raised beds. Since many of the beds are already mulched, we are just going to fill in with paper and mulch around the beds until it is all level. This bed will be mulched once the okra starts to come up. Then we will continue to mulch all the way across. Stay tuned to see how this works!
