Six more weeks of winter. I know the cold weather is coming again, but when you have this nice spring like weather, it's hard not to think about spring and gardens and all the work that needs to be done. Plus, our garden looks so happy......
red rouge lettuce
Red Russian Kale.
I can't resist all the pretty colors......
Speckled Trout Back lettuce
Even the bugs think its spring.....
Michihili cabbage going to seed.
Thankfully it's been all good bugs so far.
Spring, er winter cleaning makes the chickens happy, happy, happy, and also the reason why you make your chicken pastures right next to your garden. They are a willing cleaning crew.
We save some plants for seeds and the rest we throw to the chickens.
Did you know chickens come when they are called? These guys know when I call, they are about to be fed something yummy.
Since I am talking about chickens, they got a new casa door. We divided the pastures into two sections so we can rotate them as needed. Glenn had cut a hole in the back side of their house, (the main door opens into the other pasture) but he finally got a door made to cover the hole so we can shut it once we move them to the other pasture.
They have it pretty easy......
The girls are starting to lay more eggs again as the days get longer and we are adding more things to the garden every day. We just started giant red mustard, spinach, and arugula and are getting ready to expand our garden again so we can add even more fun things in time for spring. Let us know if there is something you really love and we will try to grow it. Always looking for new and fun things to grow.
